Waking up with the first glimpse of sunlight seeping through the curtains and the sparrows chirping, you open your eyes slowly.
The vibrant colour of the alphabet poster which is blue-tacked to the wall and the fading luminosity of the glow-in-the-dark ceiling star stickers bring you to the now, as you realise the significance of today with excitement.
It’s Father’s Day.
You throw back the sheets and run down the hallway in your pyjamas.
Without hesitation, you fly open the bedroom door and jump on the bed, putting an end to the sleep of the adults in your life.
They are the ones who taught us how to ride a bike, told us to harden the fuck up when we needed it and were the first to cave in and give us chocolate when we didn’t deserve it. But above all, this person in your life offered you the very best advice they could give – the lessons they learned through their life experience.
Fathers, mothers, grandparents, siblings, friends… in recognition of the father figure in our life, ZACK Group would like to share with you the advice from our significant paternal others which has shaped our careers and stayed with us through the years:

Adam O’Shea
“Work Hard. Work Fast. Work Smart.”
Something my Dad installed in to me and my four brothers growing up. Never have I met another man so devoted to giving his time so his family can reap the rewards. We may be 17,208 km apart, but he will always be my hero.

Colin Kleine
Me: “Papa, Papa, I got 98% on my math exam!!”
Dad: “Why not 100%? I always get 100%, 98% is not 100%!”
My Dad has always expected the best from me and this has taught me to always aim to be the best and to push myself.

Danielle Stephenson
“Work hard and save for your dreams.”
My dad always told me from a young age to travel the world, since he did not have the chance after pursuing his career. This has shaped my career since I am half way across the world in a job that I love and he still manages to inspire me every day even though he is 10 thousand miles away.
Despina Konstantinidis
“Chase your dreams, work hard and live life to the fullest.”
This is something my dad always encouraged me to do. He gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person: He believed in me! He is my hero till the end.

Natalie Giuliani
“Get a job.”
My Dad was always fairly blunt, in some moments though he can be sentimental so when I did get my first ever interview he was so excited for me he wanted to come along. I got the role and he shook my new boss’s hand and turned and beamed at me. His grin helps me keep on keeping on because I know he’s proud about whatever I have chosen to do, and I know that I can do anything because he believes in me.

“The hardest thing to do is to be yourself.”
This is something my Dad said when I was quite young and it has stuck with me above all his other words of wisdom, especially in my career. It reminds me how important it is to stay true to myself, even if that means going against the grain. My Dad has always been supportive in my headstrong decisions and I am lucky to be guided by such a strong, wise person.

“Never stop believing in yourself because I will never stop believing in you.”
My father has always been the most influential person in my life whether he knew it or not. I spent my younger days admiring his ability to command a room and always make the people around him feel his love and always made sure I understood that my sole purpose in life is to be happy. Read more
